Construction equipment manufacturer Komatsu America says drone-powered mapping and analytics software can enhance the efficiency of construction jobsites. As such, the company has made drone-enabled mapping and analytics an integral part of its Smart Construction initiative and partnered with drone analytics solutions provider Propeller Aero to provide Komatsu customers with an enterprise-level drone analytics solution.

    Fast Site Visualization

Komatsu describes Smart Construction as a range of integrated hardware and software products offering “an end-to-end workflow for each phase of construction.” Jason Anetsberger, Komatsu America senior product manager, says Komatsu construction jobsites by design are technology-enhanced and production-optimized. “Adding Propeller as one of our key partners gives our North American distributors and customers exceptional capabilities to achieve this standard in the aerial mapping space,” he says. “Propeller combines simple, yet powerful analysis tools with accurate and fast site visualization.”

Komatsu America spent years testing solutions before selecting Propeller’s, which “balances ease of use with survey accuracy and reliability.” Komatsu says Propeller’s processing machinery can crunch thousands of drone images in hours and then provide results via a cloud-based 3D model on a user’s desktop computer or tablet. Collaboration and analysis tools can then help perform height, volume, and slope calculations and measure changes over time to make sure a project is progressing according to plan.

    Empowering Worksites

John Frost, Propeller vice president of business development, says accurate, timely drone data is something worksites are seeing real business value in. “We drive that value through workflows that enable everyone to understand who’s moved what material, how much, and where,” he says. “It’s all about empowering worksites with the information they need to make data-driven decisions to reduce costs, ensure quality, and use resources efficiently.”

“Anyone can fly a drone—it’s what you do with the data that makes an impression,” says Komatsu Equipment Company Smart Construction Business Manager Chris Faulhaber. “Propeller provides fast, accurate data processing via a web platform that is unparalleled. The platform is easy to use, facilitates healthy collaboration, and delivers vital information quickly.”
