The National NBT45 mounted boom truck crane has a maximum lift capacity of 45 tons (40.8 metric tons), maximum tip height of 206 feet (62.8 meters), and maximum reach of 161 feet (49.1 meters) with a five-section boom. (Photo courtesy of Manitowoc.)

National, a Manitowoc brand, has produced its NBT45 mounted boom truck crane for around eight years, but continues to add new features with each iteration. It supports a maximum lift capacity of 45 tons (40.8 metric tons) and has a 4,500-pound (2,041-kilogram) tailswing counterweight. It also has a main boom with a maximum tip height of 168 feet (51.2 meters) and a maximum tip height of 206 feet (62.8 meters) when you combine the boom and jib. The NBT45’s outriggers expand out to 24.7 feet (7.52 meters) with a full extension and 17.5 feet (5.33 meters) with a mid-extension.

    Standard Features & Options

The National NBT45 sports a five-section boom with a maximum reach of 161 feet (49.1 meters), but there are options for 103-foot (31.4-meter), 127-foot (38.7-meter), and 142-foot (43.3-meter) boom lengths. It also has a galvanized steel cab with tinted safety glass, adjustable seat with controls built into the armrest, a heater, ventilation fans, wipers, two work lights mounted to the cab, and optional air conditioning. Like all of National’s other boom trucks, the NBT45 comes standard with a Load Moment Indicator (LMI), which has an LCD display that shows every load lifting value at once so the operator can keep track of them and stay safely under the maximum lift capacity.

Natural Gas & Oil Field Work

With a maximum boom reach of up to 161 feet (49 meters), the NBT45 is well suited for natural gas and oilfield work, like placing tools into multiple oil wells or lifting and placing several fuel tanks without needing to reposition the truck, all while keeping the load right out in front of the operator. Because National’s boom cranes can be mounted on traditional semi-trucks, you can move them from jobsite to jobsite without the need for a special permit. And depending on the size and maximum weight capacity of the truck, you may be able to haul cargo when you’re done lifting with the crane to avoid bringing in a second vehicle.

There are hundreds of new and used National mounted boom truck cranes for sale at CraneTrader.com, including a good number of National NBT45 models.
