National Crane has designed a new Rapid Attach Platform with a focus on aerial utility tasks for some of its boom trucks. The new connection system replaces earlier attachment mechanisms, according to parent company Manitowoc.

“Customers asked for a more versatile platform that was quicker and easier to attach,” says Bob Ritter, the company’s engineering manager for boom trucks. “We went back to the drawing board and the idea for a completely new platform design quickly started to take shape.”

    Aerial Utility Features

NBT boom truck operators can connect to the Rapid Attach Platform at angles of up to plus or minus 15 degrees. This makes the platform simpler to attach on the uneven surfaces typical of many construction environments.

“The ability to quickly attach this platform on uneven ground is unprecedented in the industry,” says Ritter. “It will give operators much greater versatility and productivity on the jobsite.”

Built of steel, the non-insulated platform is rated to hold up to 1,200 pounds (544 kilograms) in its basket and up to 500 pounds (227 kilograms) with its jib. It has a single-pin system and a self-centering boom nose adapter. National Crane also offers a remote-control docking station and a pressure intensifier option per input from the Voice of the Customer user feedback program.

    Compatibility & Availability

The Rapid Attach Platform is compatible with various National Crane boom trucks. The firm specifically mentions NBT swing seat cranes such as the NBT40–1 series, the NBT50 and new NBT50L series, the NBT55, and the NBT60, as well as the NTC series’ new NTC55.

The first edition, part number Y-RAP2, is of a yoke style and is available at this writing. Later this year, National Crane plans to release a rotating version (R-RAP2).
