Liebherr Introduces New MK 73-3.1 Compact Mobile Construction Crane

Liebherr bulked up its series of mobile construction cranes this week with the addition of the MK 73-3.1, a three-axle, one-person-operable taxi crane with a 6.6-ton maximum load capacity. (Photo courtesy of Liebherr.)

Liebherr has added the MK 73-3.1 to its series of mobile construction cranes, marking the lineup’s smallest model yet. The compact three-axle taxi crane is designed for short-deployment applications, including those in space-constrained urban worksites. Ready to use in only about 10 minutes, the MK 73-3.1 doesn’t require other transport vehicles. Additionally, because it is electrically operated, Liebherr says it’s extremely quiet and generates no emissions while operating. These characteristics make it ideal for working at night in locations where noise sensitivity is a concern.

    Long Reaching

The MK 73-3.1 joins the larger four-axle MK 88-4.1 and five-axle MK 140 models, each of which has an 8.8-ton (8-metric-ton) maximum lift capacity, in Liebherr’s MK series. The new crane has a 6.6-t (6-mt) maximum load capacity and measures 45 feet (13.8 metres) in length, 9 ft (2.75 m) in width, and 13 ft (4 m) in height. Designed with long reach in mind, the crane has a jib length of 126.3 ft (38.5 m) and a 2.2-t (2-mt) jib head load capacity with corresponding ballast. In a 45-degree luffed jib position, the MK 73-3.1 can reach a 167.3-ft (51-m) lift height while supporting a 3.1-t (2.8-mt) maximum lift capacity. Three luffed jib positions are possible.

    One Engine, One Operator

The crane uses a one-engine concept that Liebherr says makes it especially economical to operate, as only the machine’s travel motor in the undercarriage is used to operate the integrated generator. The crane draws power either from the generator or an on-site power source. The crane provides 63- or 32-amp operation, and Liebherr notes that “working speed is in no way restricted” at 32 amps. Features includes an ECO mode, an infinitely adjustable lift cabin, and camera systems that provide views of the load and undercarriage. Others include a Micromove fine-positioning mode assistance system, five steering programmes, the Load Plus load curve, and reinforced trolley travel gear that enables lifting up to 50% heavier loads in the 45-degree luffed position, Liebherr says.
