Hyva Debuts New EDGE Line Of Truck-Mounted Cranes
Dutch manufacturer Hyva recently premiered its new EDGE series of hydraulic, truck-mounted cranes, optimized for strength, weight, and speed. The line includes a whopping 40 models with lift moments ranging from 59,000 to 433,000 pound-feet (9 to 66 ton-meters) and five boom configurations.
Hyva debuted the new cranes at the Bauma trade show in Germany a couple of weeks ago. The company says they come with the best warranty in the industry: three years of general coverage and five years on structural parts.
“The EDGE Line represents an important milestone for Hyva,” said the firm’s Line of Business Director of Cranes, Davide Catellani. “(It) reflects Hyva’s core values of innovative engineering, robustness, light weight, ergonomics, and aesthetics which perfectly match the latest automotive design trends, and ultimately adds continuity and value to truck investment.”
EDGE Models
Among the varied lineup of the EDGE family are compact, telescopic HT models; the flexible, basic articulated HB series; and forged double-linkage models with the HC designation. There’s also an HC-K “K-boom” variant with a high lifting point and a short, retractive secondary boom.
EDGE line models come with up to eight extensions with standard or auxiliary activations. Other features include top seats or stand-up platforms, options for jibs and winches, extra-wide stabilizers, and a 425-degree slewing angle.
One of the new EDGE models Hyva showed at the Bauma show was its HC661. This 433,000-pound-feet (66-ton-meter) class crane boasts a couple of new, patented technologies. The first, the Auto Stabilising System, allows automatic truck leveling on any surface. The other, Active Awareness Radio Remote, gives the operator force feedback through joystick vibrations when the load is too heavy or out of range.
Special Features
Another EDGE series innovation is the whimsically named “The Magic Touch.” After the operator stabilizes the truck, this feature can automatically unfold the crane to working position, and later fold it back up for transport.
The Dynamic Load Diagram, or DLD, gauges the truck’s stability and then pre-calculates how much it can currently lift. A Smooth Descent Valve (SDV) gives the boom a softer, more controllable landing during unloading.
Hyva EDGEs offer a remote control so the operator can safely maneuver the crane from the best vantage point. There’s an Extra Extension Speed (EES) feature to speed up boom deployment, and a Lift Control System (LCS) to supply up to 10% more lift capacity by slowing down the crane under load.
Hyva also gave the EDGE line ergonomic crane controls and attachment options such as grabs and rotators.
International Reach
Hyva was founded in 1979 in the Netherlands. Today it manufactures equipment in China, India, Brazil, and Europe.
