Liebherr Sells RL 2650 Offshore Crane To Navtech In The Persian Gulf
Liebherr has signed a delivery contract for an RL 2650, the second-largest ram luffing crane it manufactures. The buyer is United Arabian Emirates-based Navtech Marine Services.
Navtech plans to mount the crane on a new build jack-up barge with a reinforced slewing bearing and column. This special setup will allow the RL 2650 to lift 82.7 tons (75 metric tons) while remaining compact and lightweight, Liebherr says.
Navtech will use the crane to lift parts and perform maintenance on oil platforms in the Persian Gulf. The company will be performing service jobs for ADNOC, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.
“After discussing the project-specific needs, the RL 2650 is the most suitable product to meet the requirements since it is the only crane which provides the lifting capacity of 75 tonnes (while) complying with the weight requirements,” says Liebherr’s Sales Director of Ship and Offshore Cranes, Daniel Poll. “Due to its dimensions and the specific adaptions, it is the optimal product for this project.”
The Liebherr RL 2650
In normal applications, Liebherr’s RL 2650 cylinder luffing crane is only rated to lift about 66 tons (60 metric tons), hence the importance of its reinforced slewing bearing and slewing column on the Navtech barge. Its factory pedestal is less than 10 feet (3 meters) in diameter.
The box-boomed crane has a jib length of 177 feet (54 meters) with unlimited slewing throughout a 360-degree radius. It has an overturning moment of 19,167 kilopound-feet (2,650 ton-meters). Liebherr can outfit it with either an electro-hydraulic or diesel-hydraulic drive system.
