National’s NTC55L Proves A Valuable Upgrade For Winkler Crane
When a traffic accident took Winkler Crane’s boom truck out of commission, the company decided to upgrade to a machine with a higher capacity and longer reach. The Massachusetts-based company chose the National Crane NTC55L boom truck. Manitowoc, the crane’s manufacturer, says the NTC55L can move in tighter spaces like a crane truck but offers the roadability of a boom truck, allowing it to move quickly between jobs.
The NTC55L also features a 151-foot (46-meter) boom, four-position outriggers (100%, 75%, 50% and fully retracted charts), an integrated two-camera system for hoist-view and rearview, and a built-in wireless wind speed indicator. An optional 36-foot (11-meter) fixed-length offsettable jib and 26- to 45-foot (8- to 13.7-meter) two-section offsettable manual extension are also available. The longer boom and upgraded outrigger system lets Winkler use the crane for a wider variety of jobs than they were able to complete with their previous model.
A True Multitasker
e machine has been put to a variety of uses since its acquisition, including the removal of tree debris from houses and returning boats to the local yard after a tornado in July. “We are very happy with our NTC55L boom truck,” says Mike Winkler, owner of Winkler Crane. “Our jobsites are all very different, from commercial jobs such as lifting iron beams at construction sites to residential jobs such as lifting and placing a hot tub. We have quickly found that the added boom length combined with the capacity at radius and the new outrigger configuration enables us to complete nearly any job."
