Manitowoc’s New MLC150-1 Offers Greater Capacity, Greater Reach & Quicker Assembly

    Posted On: February 28, 2020

Manitowoc Cranes based its new 165-ton (150-metric-ton) MLC150-1 crawler crane on the company’s 110-ton (100-metric-ton) MLC100-1, a model that garnered a lot of positive feedback from customers for its maneuverability and competitive load charts. In addition to 165-ton base capacity, the MLC150-1 features a maximum boom length of 256 feet (78 meters). Manitowoc is unveiling the MLC150-1 at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG show in Las Vegas, taking place March 10 to 14.

    Compact With Ample Capacity

Powered by a Cummins QSB6.7L Tier 4F/Stage V engine rated at 326 horsepower (240 kilowatts) at 2,200 rpm, the MLC150-1 is built for versatility. Operators can install a fixed jib of 80 ft (24 m) with a 29.5-ton (27-metric-ton) capacity, or a 170-ft (52-m) luffing jib with a capacity of 50.2 t (46 mt); both options are common with other Manitowoc cranes. Operators can use Manitowoc’s Crane Control System to fine-tune function controls and track usage hours for maintenance purposes.

    Express Assembly

In upgrading the MLC150-1, Manitowoc designed the crawler crane for quicker assembly. The company says that the boom butt mounted sheave enables self-assembly without the boom top, and to reduce components, the crane features a button-style rope termination and a gantry-raised counterweight. The boom cap, jib butt, and struts ship as a single package for fewer connections. To ensure minimal permitted loads during transport, Manitowoc increased hook height to enable self-assembly with various trailer heights.
