Hoffman Equipment Celebrates 100th Anniversary With Purchase Of Four New Manitowoc & Grove Cranes
Hoffman Equipment, a family-run company in Piscataway, New Jersey, recently celebrated its 100th year in the lift equipment industry. To commemorate the occasion, Manitowoc presented the firm with a celebratory plaque at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG construction trade show last month in Las Vegas. Hoffman purchased a number of Manitowoc and Grove cranes at the show, including Grove GRT8120 and GRT880 rough-terrain models and Manitowoc MLC150-1 and MLC100-1 crawler cranes.
Grove GRT8120
Manitowoc launched the Grove GRT8120 rough-terrain crane at CONEXPO alongside various other new models. Grove rates the crane’s lifting capacity at 120 tons and 120 metric tons, despite the difference between the two systems of measurement. The GRT8120’s claim to fame is its exceptionally long 197-foot (60-meter) boom for its weight class. The seven-section Megaform boom uses Grove’s Twin-Lock pinning system. The GRT8120 can reach a maximum tip height of 265 ft (80.8 m) and supports swingaway jibs with up to 45 degrees of offset.
Grove GRT880
The GRT880, like the one Hoffman purchased at CONEXPO, now comes with a two-year standard warranty with the option of five years’ extended coverage. The two-axle Grove crane is an 80-ton (80-metric-ton) rough-terrain unit with a boom that can extend from 41.2 to 134.7 ft (12.6 to 41 m). The four-section, full-power boom supports inserts to reach a 223-ft (68-m) maximum tip height. Grove gave the crane four steering modes to improve its ability to squeeze into confined work sites.
Manitowoc MLC150-1
Also newly launched at CONEXPO was Manitowoc’s MLC150-1. The 165-t (150-mt) lattice boom crawler crane has a main boom length of 256 feet (78 meters). It has a new, wider cab and self-assembly features, along with easy maintenance access. Manitowoc’s CCS (Crane Control System) offers advanced control over operation of the crane, and it can also track individual function hours and provide diagnostics. The crane’s engine meets Tier 4 Final and Stage V emissions requirements.
Manitowoc MLC100-1
Like the larger MLC150-1, the 110-t (100-mt) Manitowoc MLC100-1 crawler comes with button-style wire rope terminations and 10% more legroom in its wide-body cab. It’s completely self-assembling, simplifying on-site setup time. The crane has a 200-ft (61-m) lattice-style boom and a 60-ft (18.3-m) fixed jib. Its intake, engine, cooler, and exhaust aftertreatment system are all self-contained.
