Grúas Alhambra, a lifting and transport rental company based in Granada, Spain, now has 61 Liebherr machines in its rental fleet after recently taking delivery of a Liebherr four-axle MK 88-4.1 mobile construction crane. Among other benefits, Liebherr points to the MK 88-4.1’s compactness and maneuverability as perfect for jobs situated in densely populated inner cities, as well as nighttime work, antenna construction, solar panel installation, bridge and road building, maintenance and repair work, and other applications.

    A “Perfect” Addition

Founded in the 1960s, Grúas Alhambra also provides crane operators for hire and self-loading boom trucks, tower cranes, wind-power cranes, celosia cranes, special transportation, and other equipment for rent at its various locations. In recent years, the 80-employee company has specialized primarily in rentals of tower cranes, mobile cranes, and truck-mounted loading cranes. Abraham Molina, Grúas Alhambra’s crane manager, says the addition of the MK 88-4.1 will enable the company to offer customers “outstanding individual solutions” and says the crane is a “perfect” addition to its rental lineup.

In addition to noting the MK 88-4.1 can operate emissions-free and offers new axle-load options that make it a more economical choice compared to its MK 88 Plus predecessor, Liebherr says the one-man operable MK 88-4.1 is frequently also used as a taxi crane and is ideal for short-term hoisting tasks. Compared to the MK 88 Plus, the MK 88-4.1 also provides more power and flexibility; Liebherr offers as proof of this the crane’s ability to lift loads to a 193.9-foot (59.1-meter) height in luffed jib position.

Grúas Alhambra’s new two-line, four-axle Liebherr MK 88-4.1 mobile construction crane provides a 17,637-pound maximum lift capacity and a 4,850-pound lift capacity at maximum radius. (Photo courtesy of Liebherr.)

    Specifications

The crane uses a 442.5-horsepower (330-kilowatt) six-cylinder Liebherr engine, and has a 48-ton operating weight. Its maximum lift capacity is 17,637 pounds (8,000 kilograms), and its lift capacity at maximum radius is 4,850.2 pounds (2,200 kilograms). Other specs include a 99.1-ft (30.2-m) maximum hook height and 147.6-ft (45-m) jib length to go along with 15-, 30-, and 45-degree luffed jib positions.
