Manitowoc recently announced the latest model in its Potain topless tower crane lineup, the MCT 185, which the company says boasts a fast setup time—as little as 1.5 days—and easy transport thanks to its compact design. The 8.8-ton (8-metric-ton)-capacity crane was designed for use on urban and infrastructure projects.M

About The MCT 185

The MCT 185 has a 213-foot (65-meter) jib but can travel in just five containers due to minimized component dimensions of each section, including the shorter ballast on the counter-jib. The section is available in two lengths, 44.3 ft (13.5 m) for the 98- to 147.5-ft (30- to 45-m) jib or 52.5 ft (16 m) for the 164- to 213-ft (50- to 65-m) jib. Users also have a choice when it comes to the mast with standard 5.2- or 6.5-ft (1.6- or 2-m) options or the new 24.5-ft (7.5-m) S46JR reinforced basic mast, which offer freestanding heights for the MCT 185 of up to 194 ft (59.2 m).

The crane has a lift capacity of 1.7 t (1.5-mt) and the new 30-kilowatt 40 LVFC 20 Optima winch, which comes standard, has 1,496 ft (456 m) rope capacity and is capable of hoisting 1.2 t (1.1 mt) at speeds of up to 321 ft (98 m) per minute. Other winch options are available, including the 45-kW 60 LVFC 20 Optima, capable of lifting 1t (1.1 mt) at up to 397 ft (121 m) per minute; while the 45-kW 60 LVFC 20 Optima moves 1.1 t (1 mt) at up to 394 ft (120 m) per minute and comes with 1,800 ft (553 m) of wire rope. Buyers can also choose between the standard S110 Smartview cab or the V140S Vision cab.
