Altec AC40E-152S & AC45E-127S Telescopic Boom Truck Cranes Arrive With Enhanced E-Series Controls

Altec says it took customer feedback into consideration as it developed its new AC40E-152S and AC45E-127S riding seat cranes. The E-Series telescopic boom truck cranes are equipped with upgraded electric over hydraulic unit controls, reliability improvements, and operator comfort features.

“Our team designed these updated controls to give crane operators a better experience and more confidence while in the seat, resulting in more efficient work and less discomfort after a long day on the job,” says Altec Marketing Manager Zak Hilliard.

The AC40E-152S can lift up to 40 tons (36.3 metric tons), while the AC45E-127S has a 45-t (40.8-mt) lift capacity. Both can be configured as aerial work platforms with an optional ANSI A92.2-compliant package.

    Smooth Operator

Altec smoothed out the E-Series cranes’ starts, stops, and glide swing with a new rotation bearing, a redesigned gearbox, and the aforementioned electric over hydraulic controls. Operators can be more productive and feel more confident thanks to the cranes’ improved swing performance and more precise meterability, according to the manufacturer. Operators will also appreciate Altec’s new two-door Dual Entry cab, which is equipped with heat, air conditioning, and a 20-degree tilting capability to mitigate causes of user discomfort and fatigue.

The new E-Series units also come with Altec’s LMAP (Load Moment and Area Protection) system with Smart-Zone Rating, which improves lift safety when the outriggers must be deployed asymmetrically, such as in a constrained work position. For diagnostics and fine calibration, the cranes are equipped with the Altec AXIS Service Interface.

    The AC40E-152S

The dual-rated Altec AC40E-152S requires a carrier with a gross vehicle weight rating of at least 86,000 pounds (39,000 kilograms). In crane mode, the AC40E-152S can reach a sheave height of 207 feet (63.1 meters). Its six-section, non-insulated boom is 152 ft (46.3 m) long at full extension.

When fitted with its optional platform for aerial work, the AC40E-152S provides the highest reach in Altec’s range of aerial devices. The continuous-rotation AC40E-152S can provide up to 217 ft (66 m) of elevation and up to 80 ft (24.4 m) of reach over the side. Its lower boom can articulate from minus 7 to 83 degrees.

    The AC45E-127S

Altec says that its new AC45E-127S retains a “solid feel” even when working at a radius of 100 ft (30.5 m). The company increased the ground penetration of the unit’s outriggers, which it says minimizes the cribbing necessary to level out the crane on an uneven surface. The AC45E-127S is made to mount on vehicles of 72,000 lbs (32,700 kg) GVWR and up.

The five-section, uninsulated boom of the AC45E-127S can telescope to a 127-ft (38.7-m) maximum length. As a crane, the unit’s max sheave height is 135 ft (41.1 m). When stowed for travel, the crane is just 13 ft (4 m) in height.

In its aerial configuration, the AC45E-127S supplies up to 133.4 ft (40.7 m) of platform height and up to 93 ft (28.3 m) of side reach. Its lower boom articulation range is minus 10 to 80 degrees.
