Altec announced its new AC65E-155S boom truck crane at the recent Utility Expo trade show in Louisville, Kentucky. The AC65E-155S is a dual-rated utility unit that can be used as an aerial device as well as a crane. It has 65 tons (59 metric tons) of lift capacity and a 155-foot (47.2-meter) main boom. In its aerial device configuration, it can provide a remarkable platform working height of 220 ft (67 m).

    Doing More With Less

“This unit is especially exciting for Altec, as it represents the culmination of an extraordinary effort to combine customer feedback with the latest technological advancements,” says Altec Cranes Market Manager Zak Hilliard. “By providing a truly innovative solution, we are helping our customers do more with less.”

    Customer-Requested Features

Altec says the new AC65E-155S combines class-leading lift capacity with industry-first capabilities as a personnel platform. Among the latter are a two-stage hydraulic articulating jib and a counterweight installation system that can be run by a single operator.

The manufacturer also says that the seven-axle AC65E-155S stands alone in its class with a length of less than 40 ft (12.2 m). It can also be set up to meet federal bridge law requirements, which allows it to travel without the need for permits. More details on the new AC65E-155S are expected to follow.
