Liebherr Unveils 470 EC-B Flat-Top Crane With 17.6-Ton & 22-Ton Maximum Capacities

Liebherr has begun to sell its new 470 EC-B flat-top crane, which comes with either 17.6 or 22 tons (16 or 20 metric tons) of maximum lift capacity. The new model is currently the largest crane in the manufacturer’s Tough Ones family.

Like smaller EC-B cranes, the 470 EC-B is designed to work well with other flat-top cranes on jobsites. Liebherr also focused on the new crane’s transportation, assembly, handling capacity, and safety aspects.

    Versatility

The 470 EC-B’s 262-foot (80-meter) jib can be increased to 272 ft (83 m) with an extension. The jib’s 8.2-ft (2.5-m) intermediate sections offer more configuration flexibility than the standard 16.4-ft (5-m) increment. With the standard jib length of 262 ft, the 17.6-t version of the 470 EC-B can lift up to 7,055 pounds (3,200 kilograms) at the tip, while the 22-t edition has a tip capacity of up to 6,614 lbs (3,000 kg). The EC-B crane family’s Load-Plus button provides up to 20% more lifting power as needed.

Liebherr says the 470 EC-B’s slewing portion, jib, and counter-ballast can be transported using only five trucks. Three jib sections fit on the bed of a standard truck. On the worksite, Liebherr’s LiConnect quick assembly connections make it easy to attach the jib and counter-jib to the slewing platform, the manufacturer says. The crane comes in either steel-rope or fiber-rope configurations.

The 470 EC-B is optimized for the 24 HC 420 tower system, which is the most cost-effective option and has a freestanding hook height of up to 222.4 ft (67.8 m). The new crane is also compatible with the 24 HC 630 tower, which allows for a hook height of up to 315 ft (96 m).

    Prime Ad Space

Liebherr offers the 470 EC-B with three cab options called the LiCAB Basic, LiCAB Air, and LiCAB AirPlus. The latter two have a new air conditioning system. Each supplies a commanding view of the worksite. The cabs also feature an ergonomic control stand and more than 21.5 square feet (2 square meters) of floor space.

The 470 EC-B also has intelligent assistance systems and Liebherr’s new, more intuitive crane operating system for EC-B and EC-H series models. The new Tower Crane Operating System (TC-OS) comes with a 12-inch, multi-touch display. It provides clear control elements, broad language support, and easy menu navigation with specific, streamlined menus for crane operators and assemblers. The TC-OS system’s usability improvements can reduce training and familiarization time, Liebherr says.

The 470 EC-B also supports LED advertising panels with 92.6 sq ft (8.6 sq m) of total ad space. The LED panels can remain on the counter-jib end section during transport.
