Liebherr cites the enormous, heavy components that are becoming more common in the offshore construction of wind turbines and port handling work as primary drivers in the design of its new LR 12500-1.0 lattice boom crawler crane. The LR 12500-1.0 features Liebherr’s new HighPerformanceBoom, with a special superstructure front section and a rear section with two power units connected to a slewing platform. The new superstructure is just 13.1 feet (4 meters) wide and can be transported on a low-bed trailer, while the slewing platform is 11.5 ft (3.5 m) wide and gives operators more practical, economical transport options.

    Maximized Lift Capacity

With a lift capacity of 2,755 tons (2,500 metric tons), the new LR 12500-1.0 comes in just beneath the top-of-the-line 3,307-t (3,000-mt) LR 13000 in Liebherr’s large crawler crane lineup. The slewing platform’s rear section supports two Liebherr six-cylinder engines that generate a total of 1,088 horsepower (811 kilowatts) and are configured in a redundant system to increase availability. The LR 12500-1.0’s ballast consists of 27.5-t (25-mt) slabs that are identical to those used with Liebherr’s LR 13000 and that have the same dimensions as a 20-ft (6-m) container for convenient transport.

    Main Boom & Luffing Jib

The LR 12500-1.0 achieves a maximum hook height of 656 ft (200 m) through the combination of its 328-ft (100-m) main boom and a 354-ft (108-m) luffing jib. The modular boom system also lets operators install the luffing jib in a shorter length, as a WV heavy-duty jib, for the erection of long columns in petrochemical plants. Parts of the luffing jib can also be used to extend the main boom, bringing the length to 509 ft (155 m). The crane’s modular boom system adopts principles from the LR 13000, allowing the suspended ballast to be infinitely adjusted using the derrick boom. The ballast radius is extendable using a rigid guide.
