Manitowoc Announces New Potain MCT 565 With Shorter Jib & Higher Lifting Capacity
Since it debuted three years ago, the Potain MCT 565 topless crane has been a popular choice for jobsites around the world. The crane started with three capacity options: 22, 27.6, and 35.3 tons (20, 25, and 32 metric tons), and now is joined by the MCT 565A, which can work with shorter jibs and counter-jibs and has higher lift capacities. The new crane will make its project debut in Singapore this month.
About The Potain MCT 565A
The new crane, a more compact version of the MCT 565 M32, has a minimum jib of 82 feet (25 meters), a little over 16 feet shorter than the 98.4-ft (30-m) minimum of the previous versions. The crane’s counter-jib can also be shorter, needing only 49.2 ft (15 m), while still allowing work with up to 114.8 ft (35 m) of jib to move in tight locations. The compact design enables the cranes to work in closer proximity, which helps speed up the construction process. The crane retains many other features from the MCT 565 models. It has the same C mast sections with a maximum height under hook of 237.5 ft (74.2 m) and an assembly time of two days under normal site conditions. Potain offers either the 150 LVFC 80 FS or the 150 HPL 80 winch options.
“Topless cranes are an increasingly popular choice on jobsites across Asia and elsewhere because of the efficiencies they offer when working alongside other tower cranes,” says Brian Wang, senior vice president of Emerging Markets for Manitowoc. “The MCT 565 has demonstrated this through its exceptional lifting performance on a range of projects. We’ve also seen the emergence of these cranes spawn new ways of working in Emerging Markets. Through our Voice of the Customer process, we saw an opportunity to add increased appeal to the range. By introducing the compact MCT 565A, we are now offering greater choice in this class. The new model is positioned alongside the existing three MCT 565 options, allowing customers to choose the right crane for their specific job.”
Comparing Capacity
The MCT 565 M32 can lift 21.7 t (19.7 mt) at the end of its 98.4-ft (30-m) jib, the shortest option it has. The MCT 565A can lift 24.8 t (22.5 mt) at the same distance and can lift 31.3 t (28.4 mt) at 82 ft. When the jib is extended to lengths of 147.6 ft (45 m), the MCT 565A has a 15.6-t (14.2-mt) capacity, putting it 1.2 t (1.1 mt) over the capacity of the MCT 565 M32.
“For customers who want to use the MCT 565 in shorter jib configurations, this new MCT 565A is a great option,” says Wang. “Others like the impressive reach of the 80-meter jib with the regular versions and the flexibility that brings. Our Voice of the Customer process is designed to ensure we have the right cranes to meet customer needs—across the spectrum. Which is why this MCT 565A is such an intelligent addition to our lineup.”
