Liebherr has announced the worldwide availability of two new flat-top tower cranes in its “Tough Guys” lineup. The 300 EC-B 12 Fibre and 270 EC-B 12 both can lift up to 13.2 tons (12 metric tons) and have a maximum jib length of up to 239 feet (73 meters). They’re designed for easy transport and quick setup. The new cranes will replace Liebherr’s existing 250 EC-B and 278 EC-B Fibre models.

    The Fiber Rope Advantage

Both the new 300 EC-B 12 Fibre and 270 EC-B 12 can be configured with up to 287 ft (91.7 m) of free-standing hook height with the 7.9- by 7.9-ft (2.4- by 2.4-m) 24 HC 630 tower system. A more economical, 6.9- by 6.9-ft (2.1- by 2.1-m) 21 HC 290 tower system provides up to 234.6 ft (71.5 m) of height under hook. The two flat-top cranes are equipped with strong hoists and pure two-line operation for efficiency’s sake.

The 300 EC-B 12 Fibre uses a Liebherr fiber rope, which performs up to 20% better than steel rope and lasts up to four times longer. At a nearly full jib length of 230 ft (70 m), the 300 EC-B 12 Fibre can lift up to 7,165 pounds (3,250 kilograms), compared with 6,283 lbs (2,850 kg) for the steel rope edition of the 270 EC-B 12. The jib can be extended in 8.2-ft (2.5-m) increments.

A smart stacking system lets the counter-jib, slewing platform, and jib segments be transported in four shipments. Liebherr’s quick-release connectors make it a simple matter to connect the jib and counter-jib to the slewing platform. The compact head of the EC-B models comprises the slewing gear, the central switchgear, and the entire slewing ring support.

    See The Work

The cranes’ LiCAB cabin offers ample glass area for high visibility, as well as ergonomic controls. A new 12-inch display is the user interface for the intuitive Tower Crane Operating System (TC-OS) with multiple-language support.

Liebherr also endows the two EC-B cranes with smart assistance systems. Load Plus supplies up to 20% greater lifting capacity, Micromove allows for fine movements with loads, and the ABB operating-range limiting system maintains safe operation on the worksite.
