Liebherr’s upcoming LG 1800-1.0 lattice boom truck crane combines the 880-ton (800-metric-ton) lifting capability of the LR 1800-1.0 crawler crane with the mobility of a truck crane that’s drivable on practically all public roads.

The new LG 1800-1.0 will launch in the first half of 2024. Like its 8-axle LG 1750 successor, Liebherr’s 9-axle lattice boom crane features lighter, more stable, non-telescoping outriggers.

Crawler Performance In A Mobile Crane

The LG 1800-1.0’s wheeled chassis carries all four outrigger supports, working out to an axle load of just 11 t (10 mt). This makes it suitable for public roads around the globe. It has a top speed of 53 mph (85 km/h). A quick coupling system makes the outriggers easier to install at the jobsite.

Liebherr says the LG 1800-1.0 is ideal for wind turbine installation and maintenance. It supports 118 to 590 feet (36 to 180 meters) of main boom and can reach a 669-ft (204-m) maximum hoist height. Liebherr’s WindSpeed load charts provide safe lifting capacity tables for wind speeds of up to 30 mph (13.4 m per second).

In addition, the crane’s 18 x 8 x 18, all-terrain chassis is only 9.8 ft (3 m) wide and can climb grades of up to 25%. The all-terrain chassis also makes it easier to move around on wind farms and other work sites.

Compatible With LR 1800-1.0 Booms & More

The Liebherr LG 1800-1.0 can attain a 512-ft (156-m) maximum radius. It can also use the boom systems and all other equipment for the manufacturer’s LR 1800-1.0 crawler, including the head section, lattice-type fixed jibs, counterweight plates, and whip line. The modified slewing platform for the new LG 1800-1.0 allows longer boom systems to be erected without a derrick.

The LG 1800-1.0’s power comes from two 8-cylinder Liebherr diesel engines, with a 686-horsepower (505-kilowatt) drive motor and a 619-HP (455-kW) superstructure engine. Both are HVO fuel-ready, the company says. The crane’s ZF Traxon Torque transmission has an ECOdrive feature to extend fuel efficiency.

The new LG 1800-1.0 also supports options such as the folding V-Frame ballast guide for changing the derrick’s counterweight radius and the VarioTray detachable derrick ballast system.
