SimsHD Expands Heavy-Haul Capabilities With New Trail King Trailers

    Posted On: May 25, 2018

Heavy-duty moving company SimsHD recently acquired a few high-capacity trailers from Trail King to help meet the rigging and heavy hauling needs of its customers. The order included a straight trailer with a 160,000-pound (72,575-kilogram) capacity, a perimeter trailer with a 200,000-pound (90,718-kilogram) capacity, and a 24-axle, dual-lane trailer. In the past, SimsHD typically focused on onsite rigging projects moving loads weighing up to 1.2 million pounds, but this new fleet of Trail King trailers will help the company expand its reach by enabling them to move such heavy loads over public roads.

"The addition of these high-capacity trailers provides SimsHD greater flexibility in adapting our moving solutions to each specific project," says Dean Sims II, vice president of marketing for Sims Crane & Equipment, the parent company of SimsHD. "For example, the Trail King can expand and distribute its load across one, two, or four travel lanes, which helps reduce load bearing on bridges, and additional equipment can expand it up to 40 axles. This makes Sims Crane a major player in the super heavy hauling business niche."

SimsHD recently purchased three new trailers from Trail King, including this 200-foot, 24-axle monster that the company used to transport a 400,000-pound Hyundai power transformer.
    Power Move

SimsHD put its 24-axle Trail King trailer to work almost immediately by moving a 401,000-pound (181,891-kilogram) Hyundai transformer across a 25-mile stretch of road in Palm Beach, Florida. The trailer itself is 200 feet (61 meters) long and has 96 tires and four diesel engines that control four independent axles with the help of some hydraulic power. All told, the trailer rolled through 19 intersections and required nine law enforcement and escort vehicles plus 18 people to get the job done. (You can see video of the move here.)

Sims says his company’s goal is “to provide full-service logistics for highly specialized transportation and placement of industrial equipment,” and its new fleet of trailers will definitely aid SimsHD in serving that purpose. "While our Goldhofer SPMTs can be outfitted for transportation over public roadways, they have limited ability to secure the load,” says Sims. “The Trail King can support a load from beneath or be reconfigured to suspend a load hanging from the bridge beams.”

The Trail King perimeter trailer traveled more than 25 miles through 19 intersections with the help of 18 people to get the transformer from point A to point B.
    Take Trail King To Work

You may nor may not find a custom 200-foot perimeter trailer for sale on TruckPaper.com, but one thing’s for sure: You will find hundreds of new and used Trail King trailers for sale on the site every day.
