    About City Cranes

2019 Kato Works CR200RF City Crane

City cranes, which some vendors classify as rough-terrain crane models, need to be able to drive down tight, compact city streets. As such, there are maximum width and height limits that manufacturers of city cranes must follow. When a city crane’s telescopic boom is fully retracted and lowered, its outriggers stowed, and its single cab facing straight ahead rather than slewed to either side, it is no taller or wider than, say, a semi truck.

    City Crane Power

Despite their compact dimensions, city cranes are no weaklings when it comes to the power they provide. The Demag AC 45 City, for example, can lift nearly 22 tons with its boom extended to 65.6 feet. Depending on the configuration, a city crane can also have an operating weight that’s below local axle-load limits, which enables operators to drive it where needed without special licensing or having to haul it.
