    About Manitowoc

Global crane-manufacturing conglomerate Manitowoc started in 1902 as a shipbuilding and ship-repairing outfit based in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The company began manufacturing cranes in the 1920s, beginning with lattice-boom style cranes. During World War II, the company built commercial car ferries and received a commission to build 28 submarines for the U.S. Navy. Manitowoc sold its Marine Division to Fincantieri, an Italian shipbuilder, in 2008. The company also manufactured refrigeration equipment and ice machines under the name Manitowoc Foodservice, however the company spun off this division in 2016.

    Acquisitions & Product Lines

Over the years, Manitowoc acquired a number of smaller crane manufacturers, but retained their names and product lines. In 1947, the all-terrain crane manufacturer Grove was established in Shady Grove, Pennsylvania. Today Grove is a leading producer of mobile cranes, including rough-terrain, all-terrain, telescoping crawler cranes, and more. In November 2002, Manitowoc paid $271 million to acquire Grove. Potain has been a leader in tower cranes and self-erecting cranes since the company began in 1928 in La Clayette, France, offering over 60 types of tower cranes, including top-slewing, luffing-jib, topless, and Hup self-erecting cranes. National Crane is known for its boom trucks, which offer innovative outrigger systems and compact chassis. National Crane originally manufactured telescopic boom truck cranes in Waverly, Nebraska, but following its acquisition in 1963, production moved to Shady Grove, Pennsylvania. Manitowoc also owns the Shuttlelift brand of carry deck cranes.

    Find The Right Crane

CraneTrader.com offers a large selection of new and used cranes from Manitowoc’s subsidiaries, including all-terrain cranes, truck-mounted cranes, rough-terrain cranes, telescoping crawlers, carry deck cranes, tower and self-erecting tower cranes, and boom truck cranes. These machines are used for a wide range of construction, industrial, and military applications.

From the Manitowoc brand in particular, you’ll find a big selection of lattice boom crawler cranes as well as machines from an assortment of older product lines like lattice boom truck cranes, mounted and un-mounted boom truck cranes, and other, more specialized models. Popular crawler crane models on the site include the Manitowoc 999, 2250, 4000, and MLC300.
