Grove Sells A 165-ton All-Terrain Crane To A Czech Transport Company
Grove has completed a sale of a GMK5150L all-terrain crane to a Czech company specializing in heavy and oversized transport. Tabor, Czechia,-based B+V Trans s.r.o. bought the 165-ton (150-metric-ton) crane because its customers have been requesting transport for longer and heavier materials than its existing cranes were designed to work with; the company uses its all-terrain cranes to load and unload oversized payloads.
“We compared five-axle cranes of up to 180 tons from all major crane manufacturers and found the GMK5150L to offer the best performance in its Taxi configuration,” says B+V Trans CEO Petr Baborský. In its Taxi mode, the crane can bring all it needs to a jobsite without requiring additional transport vehicles to carry its counterweight, jib parts, and the like.
The GMK5150L Up Close
The Grove GMK5150L is a five-axle crane with a gross vehicle weight of 132,280 pounds (60 metric tons) and a single, Tier 4 Final engine. Its six-section Megaform boom can extend up to 197 feet (60 meters), and with an extension and swingaway jib it can reach a maximum tip height of 288.7 feet (88 meters).
The GMK5150L uses all-wheel steering, a steer-by-wire system, and a Megatrak independent suspension to get into position on the jobsite. There, the user can operate the crane using Manitowoc’s popular CCS (Crane Control System) in the 20-degree tilting cab.
On The Job
Manitowoc dealer Pragotechnik spol. s.r.o. sold the new crane to the special transport company, which has bought a 55-ton Grove GMK3050-1 and a 110-ton GMK4100L in the past.
“I’m sure this GMK5150L is going to prove that my decision was the right one,” says Baborský of the purchase. “With this crane, we can start offering assembly work for precast concrete blocks. We are also very satisfied with Grove aftersales support in Czechia.”
