    About Kobelco

A subsidiary of Kobe Steel, Kobelco Construction Machinery is a multinational heavy equipment manufacturer whose product line includes a full line of lattice boom crawler cranes, as well as truck cranes, rough-terrain cranes, city cranes, and more.

    Products

Kobelco’s family of cranes includes mostly lattice boom crawler models and some telescopic boom crawler cranes with lift capacities ranging from 5.4 to 606 tons (4.9 to 550 metric tons). The smallest models, such as the CK90UR-3, are suitable for tiny work spaces such as tunnels and utility trenches. The largest, such as the SL6000G in the heavy-duty SL Series, are engineered for large structure and bridge erection, windmill turbine placement and maintenance, facility construction, and other big tasks.

Kobelco CK1600G Lattice Boom Crawler Crane

The company’s CK-G (North America), CKE-G (Europe), and CKS and 7000S (Standard) Series lattice boom crawler cranes are engineered for efficient transport and environmental protection, according to the company. Its BM-G, BM-EG, and BMS (Standard) Series cranes are designed for civil engineering and foundation applications. TK-G Series models feature telescopic booms.

Kobelco also offers a number of wheeled cranes, such as the 72-t (65-mt) MK650 lattice boom wheel crane and the 28-t (25-mt) RK250 rough-terrain crane offered in Japan.

    Features

Kobelco’s G-Series cranes have energy saving systems which can reduce fuel consumption by up to 30% by reducing engine rpm while maintaining performance. These “G-modes” include the energy-saving G-Winch control system and the G-Engine RPM limitation system. Another G-mode system is the Auto Idle Stop. G-series cranes are also noted for their greater transportability, larger cab, load moment indicator touchscreen, counterweight detection device, and short control levers.

Kobelco G-series cranes have an enhanced counterweight self-installation mechanism in which counterweights stacked on the ground are raised for installation by vertical cylinders. G-series models also support Kobelco’s KCROSS telematics and fleet management system.

    Kobelco History

Founded in 1905, Kobelco is a subsidiary of Kobe Steel of Kobe, Japan. It released its 6.6-t (6-mt) 10KT and 11-t (10-mt) truck cranes in Japan in 1953. In 1955, Kobelco acquired crane technology from P&H, a mobile crane manufacturer in Waverly, Iowa, in the United States. New models to follow included the 55TC truck crane (1957); 300-series crawler and truck cranes and the 55B-TC truck crane (1963); the H212 hydraulic truck crane (1967); and the R150 rough-terrain model and the T series of hydraulic truck cranes (1969).

In 1973, Kobelco took a nautical turn with its FD Series of floating crane barges. The manufacturer fielded the MK-7 sludge dredger in 1977, as well as 5000 Series crawler cranes back on dry land. The 1980s brought a number of new crane models, including the big 717-t (650-mt) 5650 crawler (1982); RK160 and RK200 rough-terrain models (1983); fully hydraulic crawler cranes in the 7000 series (1984); and Japan’s first mini rough-terrain crane, the RK70/RK70M (1989). That same year saw the debut of Kobelco’s seminal CK series of crawler cranes.

Kobelco Panther rough-terrain cranes appeared in 1991, along with the BM1200 crawler, the ancestor of the ongoing BM Series for civil engineering. RK Series rough-terrain cranes appeared in the first half of the 1990s, as did the 882-t (800-mt), super-large SL13000 crawler (1993) and the Master-Tech 7000 series of crawler models (1994). Entities from Kobe Steel and Yutani Heavy Industries merged in 1999 to form Kobelco Construction Machinery Co. Ltd.

The TK series of telescopic boom crawler cranes debuted in 2000. Kobelco also signed an operational agreement with Tadano that year to produce wheeled cranes. MK lattice boom wheel models arrived in 2001. In 2003, the company established Kobelco Cranes North America Inc. in Houston, Texas. Kobelco also inked a deal with Manitowoc to provide OEM crawler cranes to the U.S., then later to Europe in 2005. In 2004, Manitowoc agreed to send OEM all-terrain cranes to Kobelco in the U.S. KMG-series all-terrain models debuted the following year.

Kobelco kicked off its S series of crawlers in 2011, along with a complete redesign known as the G series. The company built crawler crane factories in India in Andhra Pradesh in 2011 and Chengdu, China, in 2012. Kobelco launched its TK750G telescopic boom crawler model in 2017 and its Mastertech 7200G NEO crawler in 2021.
