By sharing traits with the popular NBT50L series and NBT40-1 series, National Crane’s new NBT40-2 boom truck range is able to deliver improved load charts, extended boom lengths, and more versatility than its predecessors. Bob Ritter, product manager of boom trucks at Manitowoc, explains that the NBT40-2 series “provides the strongest and most competitive load charts available for a 40-U.S.-ton or 45-U.S.-ton boom truck with no increase to the GVW of the crane.”

The NBT40-2 boom truck crane is one of six new cranes Manitowoc will debut at the upcoming CONEXPO 2020 show in Las Vegas.

    NBT40-2 Options

In addition its 40-ton (36.3-metric-ton) or 45-ton (40.8-metric-ton) lift capacity, the NBT40-2 series boasts a 127-foot (38.7-meter) or 142-ft (43.3-m) main boom. National Crane will offer a two-piece 31- to 55-ft (9.4- to 16.8-m) telescoping jib, which brings the maximum tip height to 150 ft (45.7 m) and can extend to 204 ft (62 m) with the jib. “With two options for capacity and reach, we’re providing customers with options that suit their specific needs,” says Ritter.

Manitowoc expects that that NBT40-2’s features make it ideal for commercial or residential construction work, as well as work in tree service industry. (Photo courtesy of Manitowoc.)

    Engineered To Maximize Loads

Manitowoc redesigned the NBT40-2 series’ turntable and torsion box, and the boom has been re-engineered for increased stiffness to maximize load chart and minimize flex. A redesigned fixed counterweight system enables Manitowoc to optimize the capacity of the boom truck, ensuring it has best-in-class load charts while remaining weight neutral compared to its predecessor.

Manitowoc points out that NBT40-2 series shares many design traits with National Crane’s NBT50L series, including its electrical and controls architecture. The company says this commonality will help operators and technicians more easily use and maintain the boom trucks.

You’ll find hundreds of new and used National boom truck cranes for sale every day on CraneTrader.com, including a number of NBT40 boom trucks.
