Company Founding & Growth
Lee Styslinger founded the Alabama Truck Company, which would later become Altec, in Birmingham in 1929. Early on, the business distributed dump and utility truck bodies and front-end loaders. Altec enjoyed dramatic expansion during the 1970s, adding new office and plant facilities, introducing such products as aerial lifts and digger derricks, and establishing a worldwide distribution organization. In 2015, the company celebrated its 85th anniversary and implemented a series of renovations and facility updates with an eye toward modernizing its manufacturing capabilities and enhancing plant productivity.

Altec’s new equipment lineup includes products in the company’s Aerial Devices (truck-mounted articulating and often telescopic bucket booms), Digger Derricks, and Cranes categories, as well as in the Bodies, Cable Handling, Chippers, Green Fleet, Specialty Products, and Spray Equipment categories.
